Spanning forests and the golden ratio

چکیده
For a graph G, let fij be the number of spanning rooted forests in which vertex j belongs to a tree rooted at i. In this paper, we show that for a path, the fij’s can be expressed as the products of Fibonacci numbers; for a cycle, they are products of Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. The doubly stochastic graph matrix is the matrix F = (fij)n×n f , where f is the total number of spanning rooted forests of G and n is the number of vertices in G. F provides a proximity measure for graph vertices. By the matrix forest theorem, F−1 = I + L, where L is the Laplacian matrix of G. We show that for the paths and the so-called T-caterpillars, some diagonal entries of F (which provide a measure of the self-connectivity of vertices) converge to φ−1 or to 1 − φ−1, where φ is the golden ratio, as the number of vertices goes to infinity. Thereby, in the asymptotic, the corresponding vertices can be metaphorically considered as “golden introverts” and “golden extroverts,” respectively. This metaphor is reinforced by a Markov chain interpretation of the doubly stochastic graph matrix, according to which F equals the overall transition matrix of a random walk with a random number of steps on G.

A Class of Convergent Series with Golden Ratio Based on Fibonacci Sequence
In this article, a class of convergent series based on Fibonacci sequence is introduced for which there is a golden ratio (i.e. $frac{1+sqrt 5}{2}),$ with respect to convergence analysis. A class of sequences are at first built using two consecutive numbers of Fibonacci sequence and, therefore, new sequences have been used in order to introduce a new class of series. All properties of the se...
متن کاملSimilar Triangles, Another Trace of the Golden Ratio
In this paper we investigate similar triangles which are not congruent but have two pair congruent sides. We show that greatest lower bound of values for similarity ratio of such triangles is golden ratio. For right triangles, we prove that the supremum of values for similarity ratio is the square root of the golden ratio.

The golden ratio has been claimed to have held a special fascination for at least 2,400 years. Some of the greatest mathematical minds of all ages, from Pythagoras and Euclidian ancient Greece, through the medieval Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa and the Renaissance astronomer Johannes Kepler, to present-day scientific figures such as Oxford physicist Roger Penrose, have spent endless ho...

The paper focuses on some of the biological characteristics of golden grey mullet, Liza aurata in Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea. Samples of commercial catch of mullet obtained by means of beach seine fishing cooperatives along the Iranian coasts of Caspian Sea (2007-2008) as monthly interval. Samples subjected to biometric measurement to specify their biological characteristics. The male/f...
متن کاملThe reproductive biology of golden barb (Barbus luteus Heckel, 1843) in Maroon River, Iran
Golden barb (Barbus luteus) is one of the species in south and southwest of Iran which is greatly favorable to residents of the region. Unfavorable ecological conditions in habitat of this species and overfishing have led to reduction of the population of golden barb. Therefore, to restore the natural stock of this species, identifying its reproductive cycle associated with its habitat is of a ...
